Conservation officers in our area are receiving dozens of calls a day about bears.
Sgt. Cynthia Mann says hot spots include the Trail area and the north and south shores of Kootenay Lake.
Not all calls require officers to visit but some have ended with the bears being destroyed.
Last week a bear was killed near Nelson’s Central School.
Mann says managing attractants is critical — including garbage, fruit trees, and bird feeders.
