UPDATED: Council upholds increase for seniors parking passes

Nelson city council has upheld its controversial increase to the price of seniors parking passes.

It came despite the presentation last night of a 175-name petition that Carol Howard collected.

But Robin Cherbo was one of two councillors who objected to hiking it from $30 per year to $90.

Mayor Deb Kozak says council also passed a motion to work with seniors groups.

Kozak insists they’re not trying to gouge seniors.

Nelson has 650 seniors parking pass holders and the number has been climbing steadily.
