Evacuation alert issued for Johnsons Landing

Some Johnsons Landing residents are on evacuation alert after what’s being described as a “minor debris flow.”

The after the Regional District of Central Kootenay received a report from a resident that Gar Creek was running muddy and materials on the slope appear to be shifting.

Winje says representatives from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and RDCK emergency management personnel have since flown over the site to assess the situation.

About 10 properties are affected by the evacuation alert, although everyone is being asked to stay away from the creek.
