Nelson city council is being asked to allow backyard beekeeping.
Axel Kraus of the West Kootenay Beekeepers says in part it would accommodate a local school’s request.
Trail now allows backyard bees while Castlegar recently began a pilot project.
Other local schools have already using observation hives.
Sharon Myers with the Bee Awareness Society says it was done in seven places last year.
Myers says they have requests to set up hives in 20 places this year including Hume and Trafalgar schools.
They give students the chance to learn about the life-cycle of honey bees.
