Windstorm downs trees, knocks out power

The power is still out in several areas around Nelson after last night’s windstorm.

Nelson Hydro says it resulted in multiple trees taking down power lines.

The company along with two contractor crews are working on restoring electricity.

The remaining affected areas are:

Area Details Estimated Restored Time
Johnstone Road to east end of Six Mile Two power structures, carrying two main lines, were damaged by trees today (early evening)
Sproule Creek (including Rixen Rd) A tree broke the power line on Wills Road today (early evening)
Grohman Community Multiple trees down tomorrow

Meanwhile, school’s out today at J.V. Humphries in Kaslo and Jewett Elementary in Meadow Creek.

That’s due to a power outage resulting from a transmission circuit failure.

The principal posted this on Facebook:

BC Hydro says the power went out about 1:50 this morning and affected about 420 customers on north Kootenay Lake.

But they were hoping to have it restored by now.
