An arbitrator has been picked and dates have been set between the City of Nelson and its firefighters.
The city’s 11 professional firefighters been without a contract since 2011.
Bob Blasina will hear the case Oct. 12 and 13.
However, city manager Kevin Cormack says they’re still meeting with the local and he’s optimistic they’ll be able to avoid arbitration.

But it’s not clear what either side’s position is.
The previous contract also went to arbitration and resulted in a 24.5 per cent wage increase.
