Pair caught with stolen foreign currency

Two men have been arrested in Nelson and charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 and numerous firearm offences.

Police say they received a report Tuesday of a suspicious man trying to exchange bills at the Kootenay Currency Exchange.

The money was suspected to have been stolen from a break and enter at a home outside of town the previous day.

Police arrested two suspects who were trying to flee in a vehicle.

A search of the vehicle and the men turned up the equivalent of $5,000 in foreign currency and two high powered rifles stolen from the same break in.

One man was released on conditions while the other remains in custody. Both will be in court next Tuesday.

Police say they know both men. The vehicle has been seized for civil forfeiture.
