North Shore evacuation alert rescinded

The Regional District of Central Kootenay has rescinded an evacuation alert on the North Shore due to the Kokanee Creek wildfire.

The RDCK says the BC Wildfire Service told them the threat posed by the fire has diminished enough to allow for the notice to be cancelled.

It was issued Saturday evening and covered 135 properties between Sitkum Creek and Crescent Bay. The fire covers about 90 hectares but received 22 to 25 mm of rain on Sunday.

An evacuation alert and order remains in place in the Nelway area for the McCormick Creek wildfire, and an alert remains in effect for the Rapid Creek fire in the Poplar area.
