The mayor of Nelson has described a closed door meeting between city council and the Nelson Police Board as “very positive.”
Deb Kozak says they met for three hours Tuesday.
The heated topic of the NPD’s request for more officers and the increased workload – especially from mental health calls – were discussed.
Kozak says the aim is to foster more collaboration between the police board and council.

Provincial Police Services is set to conduct a review into the appropriate level of officer numbers for Nelson.
The Police Chief says more are needed but council questions that.
