Local polling numbers far exceed last election

If advance polling stats are anything to go by our region is very much engaged in this Federal election.

The voting turn out in our two neighboring ridings for the four days over the holiday weekend was even bigger than the 71% BC-wide increase.

In the Kootenay-Columbia riding almost 15,000 people voted at the advance polls which is a 105% increase over the 2011 election. It should be noted that Nelson, Salmo and Kaslo have been added to this riding.

In the new South Okanagan-West Kootenay riding almost 14,500 voted between Friday and Monday. That’s a huge 250% increase compared to those who voted in the then BC Southern Interior riding in 2011.

There were three days of advance voting four years ago.
