RD can't do much mitigation on Crown Land: Director

The Rural Director for the North Shore of Kootenay Lake says there’s not much the Regional District can do to mitigate flooding and slide risks on Crown Land at Duhamel Creek.

Ron Mickel is speaking after the independent Forest Practices Board said the Province and RDCK should work on local planning to address any historic natural risk issues.

He says BC Timber Sales has already made it clear the RD has no jurisdiction.

Mickel says he’ll reach out again to government on some known flooding issues on old roads but adds a lack of consultation by the Province also helped create friction in Six Mile ahead of recent logging there.
