UPDATED: Harrop Creek fire now 1,500 hectares

The BC Wildfire Service says it has closed three logging roads in our area to protect public safety and help wildfire suppression activities.

The Harrop Creek wildfire covered about 1,500 hectares as of Thursday but remains about 10 km south of Harrop and Procter. That estimate was revised from 1,000 hectares Wednesday, but that was due to more accurate mapping, not fire growth.

Thirty-three personnel are continuing to build fire guards with the support of heavy equipment and three helicopters.

The Harrop Mainline Forest Service Road and the East Harrop Mainline Forest Service Road are now closed to the public to help protect public safety and aid fire suppression efforts. A map indicating the area affected by this road closure is available at: http://ow.ly/P1zr30e7hcd

Meanwhile, the Glacier Creek wildfire about 25 km northeast of Meadow Creek and 18 km east of Duncan Lake covered about 400 hectares as of Thursday.

The Duncan-Glacier Creek Forest Service Road has been closed starting at the MacBeth Icefields turnoff at the 19 km mark. A map indicating the area affected by this road closure is available at http://ow.ly/ccaN30e3NZz

There is currently no access to the Jumbo area or Monica Meadows. However, backcountry travellers can still access the MacBeth Icefields.
