Stage 2 water restrictions in Nelson are making a difference.
Municipal services manager Chris Gainham says consumption is down 1.5 million to two million litres a day.
He says occasional rain only provides a brief recharge.
Under the restrictions even-numbered addresses can only use sprinklers on Wednesdays and odd-numbered addresses on Thursdays, in both cases only from 4 to 9 a.m. and 7 to 10 p.m.
Gainham says they haven’t had to fine anyone for non-compliance.
