UPDATED: Body of 10-year-old recovered from Upper Arrow Lake

RCMP say the body of a 10-year-old boy missing since Wednesday in Upper Arrow Lake has been found.

An RCMP dive team recovered the car he was in shortly after an underwater search began Thursday.

“This is a tragic end to a family’s holiday season,” Sgt. Monty Taylor of the Kootenay Boundary regional district RCMP said in a news release. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and their extended network of family and friends.”

The boy’s name will not be released.

The vehicle went down an embankment off Highway 23 yesterday around 3 p.m. Wednesday near Halcyon Hot Springs.

The driver of the Toyota Matrix, a 37-year-old man and an 11-year-old girl, were able to get out of the vehicle before it sank.

The man and the girl were taken to hospital, treated, and released.  Police say all three are from the Slocan area.

RCMP are continuing to investigate the cause of the incident. They ask anyone who saw the incidents or the events leading up to it to contact them at 250-265-3677.
