NewsRegional News Blewett fire agreement renewed, despite concerns SHARE ON: Greg Nesteroff, staff Thursday, Jan. 18th, 2018 Firefighters respond to a trailer fire in Blewett in late December. The regional director for Blewett says she felt pressured into renewing a fire protection agreement for part of the area. Ramona Faust says it will see some residents pay the City of Nelson 21 per cent more over the next five years. //www.mynelsonnow.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Ramona1.mp3 Faust wanted to sign a one-year deal instead of five years, but was told that couldn’t be done on the fly. She reluctantly agreed to the deal anyway after being further told a delay could result in the area losing its fire protection. The deal will cost $176,000 in the first year and increases to $192,000 in year five. The additional cost is being chalked up to greater training and risk management requirements.
