Busy weekend for local SAR crews

Local search and rescue crews collaborated on a pair of searches over the weekend.

South Columbia SAR president Mike Hudson says they were called to the Bonanza Pass area west of Castlegar Saturday at 6:00 pm regarding two cross country skiers who were overdue and lost.

They called for help from SAR personnel in Nelson, Castlear and Grand Forks.

During that search another call came to Rossland and Castlegar SAR about two lost snowborders at Red Mountain.

Initial efforts weren’t successful and crews stood down Sunday morning at 1:30am.

They returned at 6:00am and were given air support from Vernon SAR’s winch rescue team, Dam Helicopters and Wildcat Helicoters for the separate searches.

Hudson says both pairs of search subjects were found at nearly the same time were home by Sunday evening.
