Plenty of rain and snow in a mild January 2018

The first month of 2018 had a chilly start but wound up being unseasonably mild.

Weather forecaster Jesse Ellis at the Southeast Fire Centre says there weresome arctic systems in the area around the start of January.

The mean temperature was 0, the average here is -1.6 degrees.

The coolest day was the 2nd when the mercury dipped to -9 and the warmest was the 18th at 7.3.

It was the snowiest January in our region since 1982 and the wettest since 2006.

The snow dump for January was short of 1969’s record of 185.7.
