Nelson residents can have their say about BC’s Poverty Reduction Strategy
Nelson will be hosting a community meeting for the BC Poverty Reduction Strategy on Friday.
The province is working on its first strategy to tackle poverty.
Part of the process involves the ministry holding public meetings around the province.
Social Development and Poverty Minister Shane Simpson says they’ve heard about a lot of issues already.
The meeting in Nelson starts at 1 pm at the Central Education Centre
Simpson says they’re trying to hear from as many communities as possible.
After the public consultation ends in March the Ministry will begin work on legislation that they hope to get passed in the fall.
BC is currently the only province in Canada that doesn’t have a poverty reduction plan.
