Council hopes to be part of Guaranteed Basic Income Pilot

Nelson City Council is hoping the Queen City is chosen for a pilot project on the benefits of a guaranteed basic income.
It’s an idea that the provincial NDP and Green parties both pledged their support for last May.
Councillor Valerie Warmington says Nelson would be a great fit.
Warmington says they also heard support for the idea this week from Dr. Lee Mckay with the Kootenay-Boundary Division of Family Practice.
Council will petition the province to voice their support for the project, but there’s no indication of when it will happen.
