Local school seeks Master’s accreditation

A unique program in Nelson could become the first Master’s accreditation available in the area.

The Kutenai Art Therapy Institute offers a post-graduate program, however, it is not officially recognized as a Master’s Degree.

Terence Buie is an adviser for the Board of Directors.

He says the school will be applying to the Ministry of Advanced Education to change that.

He says it would mean big things.

Buie says right now there’s 26 students in the program, but with official accreditation that could increase to 48. Plans also include the possibility of moving the school to a new building.

The school is applying to the Columbia Basin Trust for $15, 000 to help fund the accreditation process.
