Nelson to participate in national homeless count

An evaluation of homelessness will happen next month in Nelson.

It’s part of the national Point-In-Time Homelessness Count.

Nelson is the smallest community involved from across the country.

Coordinator Dylan Griffith says in 2016, 116 people were identified as experiencing some type of homelessness over a 24 hour period in Nelson.

Griffith says they’re not just looking for numbers.

Griffith says they’re looking for about 70 volunteers to help with the event on April 11.

It’s organized by the Nelson Committee on Homelessness, Nelson CARES and two dozen other local agencies and community service providers.
