Kootenay Lake School District receives almost $3 million in provincial funding

The Kootenay Lake School District will benefit from provincial funding to support facility and bus upgrades.

SD8 received $550,000 for Phase 2 of elevator construction at the Central Education Centre in Nelson and $1,039,062 comes from the School Bus Replacement program for eight replacement busses. The district will also see $1,314,852 from the Annual Facilities Grant (AFG).

School districts around the province received $198 million in funding from the School Enhancement Program, Carbon Neutral Enhancement Program, and School Bus Replacement program. The various programs distribute funds to improve: plumbing, maintenance upgrades, and safety enhancements.

The funding coincides with the Annual Facilities Grant which flows to districts every year for routine maintenance costs. In total the AFG is $115.5 million across the province which is a $5 million increase over last year.
