A distinguished scholar and professor emeritus and is speaking in Nelson next week at the Civic Theatre. After attending residential school on a reserve in Southern Alberta, Dr. Leroy Little Bear went on to help form one of the first Native American Studies programs in Canada. Other accomplishments include attending law school in Utah and and serving as Director of Harvard University’s Native American Program.

Leah Lychowyd with Selkirk College’s Aboriginal Access and Student Services says it’s the second event in the Reconciliation Speaker Series.

Dr. Little Bear currently holds the Distinguished Niitsitapi Scholar position at the University of Lethbridge and plays a key role in the University’s continued commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation calls to action in addition to leading national and international conversation about truth and reconciliation.

Dr. Littlebear will be speaking about the calls-to-action made in relation to post-secondary education by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Lychowyd says it’s a great opportunity to hear him speak, particularly for teachers.

The event is on Wednesday, April 4. Tickets are $10 for non-students and are available from the Civic Theatre.
