Info sessions aim to help rural property owners

Invasive species, drought and wildfire are all issues rural land owners may have to deal with. A series of information sessions coming up at Taghum Hall in April aim to help manage those problems.

Cathy Scott-May, Volunteer Project Coordinator, says last summer was a wake up call.

Scott-May says everyone can attend, although it’s geared for those outside of Nelson.

The first session is April 12 from 6:30-9:30pm and provides information on how to use less water for gardens and properties. The second is on April 19 from 7:00-9:00pm and deals with wildfire and wildlife issues. The final session is about which plants are harmful and helpful and is on April 26  from 6:30-9:30pm.

Rural residents who attend all three info sessions can then participate in two free intensive workshops with a landscape designer in May. Homeowners will be supported in developing a plan for their property with the information.

The events are organized by the Taghum Hall Society with financial support from the Regional District of Centre Kootenay and the Columbia Basin Trust. For more information, click here.
