Sinixt authors launch new book in Nelson

Two Sinixt authors will be presenting their new book in Nelson this week. It’s a night of story telling and discussion happening at Touchstones Nelson featuring Not Extinct: Keeping the Sinixt Way by Marylin James and Taress Alexis.

Publisher and editor K.L. Kivi says the book came together through a project by the Blood of Life Collective which is a collaborative art group.

The project includes work from 30 different writers and artists and the oral versions of the stories will be available as well. The stories cover contemporary and traditional aspects of Sinixt culture including morning practices, hunting, and food gathering. Kivi says this book may be the first of it’s kind in Canada.

Kivi says the event will have a larger focus than just the book. Authors James and Alexis will tell a story and then invite the audience to participate in a discussion. She says part of the goal is to help build bridges.

The event starts at 6:30pm on Thursday, April 5.
