Draft plan for SD8 Annual Facilities Grant funding should be available soon

The Kootenay Lake School District is working on a draft plan for the Annual Facilities Grant funding.

The district received $1,314,852 to go towards maintenance and facility improvements. Secretary-Treasurer Kim Morris says their priorities include health and safety, and structural deficiencies.

She says they’ll assess the needs of all buildings in the district, ‘First it’s health and safety around asbestos, mould, environment concerns etc., and then we look at structural deficiencies of our buildings so any roof replacement plans which is ongoing all the time. Then we hire some supplemental staffing required for projects.’ A draft plan for the funds will likely be presented to the school board April 24th

The district also received $550,000 for Phase 2 Elevator Construction at the Central Education Centre in Nelson and $1,039,062 from the School Bus Replacement program to replace eight buses. Morris says they’ll be replacing the oldest buses in the district but she’s not sure where that is yet.
