Washroom and ultrasound room renos approved for Kootenay Lake Hospital

Kootenay Lake Hospital in Nelson will be renovating its ultrasound area and patient floor washrooms. The upgrades were approved at last week’s West Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital District budget meeting and will cost roughly $40, 000 each. Thalia Vesterback, Acute Health Services Director at the hospital says these plans have been long anticipated and are important services for patients.

Vesterback says plans for the ultrasound area are to make one of the rooms bigger.

The washrooms on the patient floor will be renovated to become wheelchair accessible. Vesterback says the hospital was built in the late 1950’s when the standards of service were different.

Vocera Expansion and Integration is also planned for the region by Interior Health. Vesterback says it’s currently used in the Emergency Room at Kootenay Lake Hospital but will be expanded to the rest of the facility. She says it greatly improves staff communication.

Implementation will cost roughly $114,000 for Kootenay Lake Hospital. It’s also being expanded at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, the Slocan Community Health Centre, Talarico Place, and the Kiro Wellness Centre.
