Nelson tax increase now 2.5% instead of 3%

The estimated three per cent tax increase for Nelson has gone down to 2.5 per cent. The City of Nelson’s Chief Financial Officer Colin McClure presented the new numbers to city council yesterday. McClure says they were able to reduce it thanks to $137,000 in funding over two years from the Columbia Basin Trust.

McCLure says because the Regional District of Central Kootenay received such a large grant for upgrades at the NDCC it will help offset Nelson’s increase even more.

He says there wasn’t much feedback from residents during the budget process.

City Council is scheduled to give first three readings for the 2018 budget on Monday.
