Concerns raised over adventure tourism tenure in Purcell Mountains

Many East Shore residents came out to a meeting hosted by Retallack and the Lower Kootenay Band on Wednesday. They have submitted a joint application for an adventure tourism tenure on the east side of Kootenay Lake. Wednesday’s meeting was an open house to provide information and collect feedback.

The East Shore Mainstreet reports there are a few concerns from the community. The smaller A-Star helicopters would be used to access the area in the Purcell Mountains. Numerous trips bringing visitors and supplies could cause noise pollution and disruptions to such a pristine area. The business community also feels they may not see economic benefits from the project and are working on partnership ideas.

Retallack has said they are considering amendments and welcome opinions from the community. Feedback is being accepted until May 13.
