A reminder to be careful while burning yard waste this time of year. The Crescent Valley Fire Department responded yesterday afternoon after a backyard fire in Krestova quickly got out of a control when the wind picked up. Fire Chief Ryan Durand says it happened around 2:00pm.
Durand says luckily no homes were impacted, but it was a close call.
Durand is thankful that the volunteers from both the Beasley and Tarrys fire departments were able to respond as well.
He has some tips for anyone burning yard waste on their properties.
Durand also suggests getting a Fire Smart assessment for your property, which is available through the Regional District of Central Kootenay.
