Anti-pipeline rally happening in Nelson

Nelson is one of the communities hosting a Day of Action to Stop the Pipeline today. It’s planned for noon at City Hall. The West Kootenay Eco Society is one of the organizers. Community Engagement Coordinator Erin Thompson feels going ahead with the pipeline is irresponsible.

The Nelson Chapter of the Council of Canadians, Kootenay for a Pipeline-Free BC, and West Kootenay Eco Society are the organizers.

Thompson says it’s peaceful rally for those who support a future focused on renewable energy.

She says it’s also a chance to join their voices with many others.

The Trudeau government announced it would be purchasing the old Trans Mountain pipeline from Kinder Morgan for roughly $4.5 billion last week.  Construction for the new one could cost billions more.
