New operator for Nelson’s City Parkade

The City of Nelson has chosen a new operator for the parkade. The job was contracted to Jim Reimer for the past 22 years, but as the contract expires next month the City decided to go to an internal operator. The Nelson Youth Centre will resume the role starting January 1, 2019.

The City says the decision to switch comes as there is overall capacity available at the Youth Centre to take on the new enterprise. The Youth Centre manages the City Campground and provides a number of youth with employment. This model has been very successful and will be applied to the operation of the parkade as well.

The city says all current user contracts will be honoured to the end contract date. Day-to-day operations will remain the same going forward, with an emphasis on excellence in customer service and safety.

The City’s Chief Financial Officer Colin McClure thanks Mr. Reimer for “being integral in the successful operation of the parkade, including increasing patron use and for his commitment to this facility over the years.”
