Castlegar council tells union to make mind up on labour impasse

Castlegar City Council is sticking with an independent mediator’s recommendations when it comes to the labour impasse with its unionized employees.

Council voted to accept the recommendations that were made last month and laid out the next steps for CUPE Local 2262 members last night at their regular meeting.

Councillor Sue Heaton Sherstobitoff says the City has bargained in good faith for over a year now and it’s costing tax payers money.

The mediator recommended a 6.1% wage increase over 4 years.

The union wants more and have concerns about job security.
