Regional relationship dominates Trail election forum

Almost every candidate running in Trail’s civic election agrees there needs to be better relationships with surrounding municipalities, but does that inevitably mean amalgamation?

At Thursday night’s All Candidates forum in the Silver City incumbent Sean MacKinlay argued whether it happens now or in 50 years a Municipal District should result in fixing all the regional problems.

However, another candidate looking to earn a council seat thinks the issue has an easier solution.

Sandy Santori admits relationships need to be better but is opposed to a Municipal District.

Santori – a former Mayor of Trail and MLA for the West Kootenay Boundary – says a staff report shows amalgamation would cost Silver City homeowners a 42% tax increase.
