Castlegar gives Air Canada a nudge re airport

Castlegar and regional airport partners like Nelson and Red Mountain are giving Air Canada a friendly prod.

Councillor Sue Heaton-Sherstobitoff says the city sent a letter only last week calling on the airline to come up with a much-awaited business plan for the new Q-400 aircraft.

The hope is they can justify a business case to Nav Canada to complete hi-tech navigational upgrades at the airport that would allow the new planes to land at much lower ceilings when visibility is poor.

But Heaton-Sherstobitiff admits there’s nothing to suggest Air Canada will start landing its new Q-400’s with all the new navigation technology in place for this winter.

In the meantime with the onset of Fall weather-cancellations have already started.
