Local MP Alex Atamanenko says it’s time for the Canadian government to apologize for a huge injustice of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Impoverished or orphaned children – known as the Home Children – were sent from the UK to the former British colonies.
About 100,000 came to Canada to work or be put in residential schools.
Atamanenko says Canada should issue a formal apology.
He’s introduced the motion in parliament but admits it will need other MP’s to push for it after the election.
Atamanenko is retiring this year
