Another wildfire near the Kootenay River.

A home on Thompson Rd in Bonnington burned down earlier this morning and crews have been working to stop any spread.

Two helicopters, 3 RDCK fire departments with 8 fire apparatus, and 2 BC Wildfire crews are fighting the fire.

The fire was reported as contained around lunch time and the RDCK reported there was no current need for evacuations.

Earlier this week multiple agencies tackled a wildfire at Beasley Bluffs.

Kootenay-Columbia New Democrat Wayne Stetski is on a summer tour of farmers markets and will be at this evening's MarketFest.

Stetski has presented a private members bill calling for the Friday before Thanksgiving each year to become National Local Food Day.

The South East Fire Centre has crews on standby throughout our area in the event of wildfires.

Two initial attack crews and two helicopters were able to assist local fire departments in dealing with Wednesday's blaze at Beasley Bluffs.

Information Officer Karlie Shaughnessy says they have the resources to call on when needed.

In the case of Wednesday's worrying blaze a helicopter was dispatched from Nelson and another from Castlegar.

RCMP say a body found in Crawford Creek Wednesday is believed to be that of Alvin Dunic.

The Crawford Bay school teacher went missing at the end of May.

Andy Watson with the BC Coroner's Service can not confirm the identify the body at this stage and says they will be working to establish that.

57 year old Dunic went missing May 29th. It's believed he was going to check out a spot for a class project.

The village of Kaslo is hoping to create a new green space in time for their 125th birthday next year.

Deb Borsos is on the Public Art Committee who've been working on the small pocket park.

The village wants something on the land where the old fire hall used to be.

The committee has submitted a grant application to the federal government .

BC's new Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources says the province is still a player in the liquefied natural gas industry.

Michelle Mungall was speaking after the Pacific Northwest consortium announced they had cancelled their $36 billion project at Port Edward.

The companies cited market conditions.

After years of controversy and several staff resignations the BC Wildlife Federation has a new president.

He's Nelson-based Harvey Andrusak.

He says he wants to bring stability to the organisation.

Among the areas of focus will be making people aware that it's a lot more than just a hunting organisation.

The non-profit BCWF has about 45,000 members.

Grad may be long gone for this year's LVR Grade 12's but the celebrations are only just starting for the class of 1967.

A big 50th reunion event in Nelson will bring about 190 people together Tuesday and Wednesday.

The class of 1968 are also taking part.

Don Johnston, who is on the organizing committee, says it's excellent news to have the community filled with many visitors.
