Trail bins modified to prevent excessive garbage

45 bear proof garbage bins in Trail have been retrofitted to deter the public from using the receptacle for household garbage.

It has been a troublesome issue for the City’s public works staff who’ve had to increase how many times they empty the bins a week.

Public Works Manager Larry Abenante says the retrofitted plates only allow garbage that is 5 inches in diameter.

Trail recently pulled out of communal bear bins that allowed residents to dispose of household garbage because the initiative was being abused.
