Balfour cougar sightings being monitored

There’s no concern for public safety regarding a cougar roaming through the Balfour area.

This from Nelson Conservation Officer Nathan Smienk who says the animal is acting normally in the rural area surrounded by forest.

However, Smienk says residents should still report sightings.

Smienk says they’ve heard about numerous sightings of a cougar around Balfour at dusk.

He reminds residents it is important to keep a close eye on small children and pets when they are outdoors.
