Trail seeks indy review on stipends

The City of Trail will spend over $10,000 to determine if its mayor and councillors are being paid adequately.

Council voted Monday night to hire an independent consultant to review their stipends and expenses heading into next year’s budget.

Mayor Mike Martin says the objective is to make sure there is fair and equitable compensation for council.

Martin adds there will be public consultation before any decisions on wages are made.

Currently Trail’s mayor earns just over $29,000 a year while councillors take home $14,500 .
