Health officials don’t expect a rash of heat stroke cases this weekend but they’re giving some advice on how to beat the expected plus-40 degree temperatures.
Dr Kamran Golmohammadi is Medical Health Officer with Interior Health.
Avoiding alcohol and strenuous activity during the day are other important factors.
People over 65, children under 4 , and those who are overweight or on medication are more at risk of developing heat-related illness.
Dr Golmohammadi says you must never leave young kids in a parked vehicle in these sorts of temperatures. He says even with the windows open the heat can rise from 34C to up to 52C inside 20 minutes.
