Grand Forks debating further water restrictions

Grand Forks needs to approve tougher water restrictions amidst the very dry weather and near record river lows.

This from councillor Colleen Ross after council’s recent narrow rejection of a move to allow sprinkler use only twice a week. Currently sprinklers can be used on alternating days, a policy that is being enforced.

She says it’s not just for conservation reasons but a public safety issue too.

At least one city councillor argues people’s gardens would die if they could only use sprinklers twice a week.

Ross – a farmer and gardener disagrees – saying people need to change their watering procedures and update equipment which means much less water is needed.
