Several lighting-caused spot fires

Things may have appeared busy in our skies the last few days but local wildfire crews are focusing on several small blazes.

Lighting on Monday and Tuesday night caused flare-ups to the north of Kootenay Lake, on the West Arm , lower Arrow Lake and in the Boundary.

Fire Information Officer Fanny Bernard explains the helicopter activity.


All news fires are small and being monitored or staffed and do not threaten communities.

Meanwhile firefighting personnel have been busy dismantling burn piles that were in place for Canada Day celebrations.

These are prohibited based on the current fire ban.

Anyone present at a party fire that grows out of control may be held liable for full suppression costs.

A camp fire ban comes into effect Friday at noon.
