Progress on Sitkum/Duhamel Creek wildfire

The RDCK has released the following information regarding progress on the Sitkum/Duhamel wildfire. The evacuation alert for about 350 residents remains in place.

Residents of the Duhamel and Sitkum Creek area are still on evacuation alert as a wildfire continues to burn.

Ground and flight crews, with the aid of a tanker and other aircraft, continue to battle the 120-hectare fire.

A fire retardant line has been established between the blaze and area homes to protect residents. A Provincial type one incident management team is proceeding to the site.

This specialized team is dispatched to complex wildfires.

Indications are that winds will slow this evening.

Approximately 350 residences are in the affected area. The alert will be in effect until further notice.

If an evacuation order is issued, emergency personnel will alert impacted residents by visiting their homes.

Notices will be posted in neighbourhoods. Also, the alert will be broadcast on local radio as well as on the

RDCK’s Facebook page and website.

The Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) continues to function at Level One. If you have questions, please
