One of the biggest challenges facing the proposed solar array energy project in Nelson may be its popularity.
As expected Nelson council has given the city’s utility the go-ahead to prepare land acquisition and full costing for the modest Community Solar Garden which could cost up to $450,000.
Nelson Hydro GM Alex Love says they know there are many interested locals and based on other solar launches elsewhere in North America he says it could easily be over-subscribed.
Residents would invest in the project at Bonnington and get a long-term return via solar power sales.
The full financial proposal will be ready for the public by the fall.
It will need a certain amount of investors for it be given the ultimate go-ahead.
