Progress on West Arm wildfire

Residents on Nelson’s north shore are still under an evacuation alert but they’ll be happy to hear progress is being made on the big wildfire.

The Sitkum-Duhamel Creek blaze was measured at 380-hectares.

Winds have blown the fire back up the mountain so crews were able to set containment lines below.

Here’s Fire Information Officer Jordan Turner.

Retardant from aircraft and machine work on the ground is helping to hold the fire back from 350 affected residences.

Meanwhile an Incident Management Team has arrived who are specialists in dealing with interface and complicated fires.
