Sitkum-Duhamel wildfire:no containment yet

Progress is being made on the wildfire burning on Nelson’s north shore but officials are not prepared to talk about any level of containment.

Information Officer Noelle Kekula says despite the increased manpower on site the conditions on the ground and weather means they aren’t at that stage yet.

82 firefighters including contract crews are now on the slopes above Sitkum and Duhamel Creeks.

Three helicopters and 9 pieces of heavy equipment are also involved.

350 homes remain on evacuation alert.

A public meeting goes at the old AI Collinson school on Highway 3A tonight (Wednesday) at 7 pm.

Local residents can ask questions of the RDCK and BC Wildfire Service.
