Sitkum Duhamel evacuation alert lifted

The RDCK has lifted the evacuation alert for more than 350 homeowners affected by the Sitkum Duhamel Creek wildfire.

This follows a recommendation from the Wildfire Management Branch.

Fire Information Officer Noelle Kekula says the reason was in part because of some rainfall.

The 450 hectare fire is now reported at 50% contained.

The Access Restriction around the fire will remain in force until the public is otherwise notified.

Meanwhile the 8-hectare blaze 2 kms  south of Silverton is 10% contained.

Officials say helicopter landing pads have been built to ease access.

A 20-unit crew works on that.
