Rural immigration boost for business

A local RDCK director has good news when it comes to the Provincial Nominee Program.

It’s an economic immigration initiative that helps with the succession of businesses in B.C. communities …and that creates jobs for permanent residents.

Area A Director Gary Jackman says improvements have been made to the program  after the province suspended it earlier this year.

It was initially suspended because of the volume of applicants and the slow bureaucracy in getting immigrants processed but it should be back online in September.

Jackman says finding new people to take over a business has always been an issue in the West Kootenay.
