Nelson storm damage estimated at over $800,000

The freak storm that smashed its way through our region last month will cost the city of Nelson about $800,000.

Chief Financial Officer Colin McClure says the main costs are associated with getting Nelson Hydro back up and running and safe.

Nelson will submit a claim through the Provincial Emergency Program (PEP) and will also partner with Castlegar for some of the potential cost-recovery.

McClure can’t yet say how the financial knock could impact Nelson Hydro rates or capital projects next year.
